We are pleased to be able to provide our clients with acupuncture treatments for their pets. Many clients are aware that there is an increase in awareness of and demand for alternate or complementary therapies in human and animals medicine. Due in part to client interest and in part to a desire to acquire additional skills with which to treat our animal companions, Dr. Douglas studied acupuncture over the winter of 2000 with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). After a period of apprenticeship, she has recently become a certified acupuncturist. There are many cases that respond well to acupuncture treatment, particularly as an alternative method of pain control. Geriatric pets suffering from arthritis and back problems are the pets most commonly presented for acupuncture, yet many other types of medical cases respond as well. Please call the clinic to get information about an acupuncture consult. A course of 4 to 6 treatments may be required to assess the result, though an improvement can be seen after 1 or 2 treatments. Dr. Douglas will answer your questions regarding the theory behind acupuncture in as much detail as you wish if you are interested. Please plan to set side a regular time once a week for 6 weeks when you start acupuncture treatments for your pet. Please call the office to get further information regarding cost and the type of cases that may respond.
